SOCRATES CAFE FRIDAY-SUNDAY AUGUST 27-29 Designed for engaged citizens and contributors, thought leaders, and intellectuals, Here House presents: Socrates Cafe. We are committed to a program in which we totally transcend binary thinking; each night we will invite the audience to engage in philosophical exploration on the below topics in which in a safe and supportive environment. Each 90 minute inquiry session with a moderator and panel is followed by small plates and a classical music performance for collective integration. This program is led by Candice Carpenter Olson, Michaela Carpenter, and Paula Nirschel. SUNDAY : 6-9PM PLANT MEDICINE + OTHER PSYCHEDELICS FRIDAY : 6-9PM SATURDAY : 6-9PM THE BIG BREAKDOWN + MODERN SPRITUALITY AFGHANISTAN + GLOBAL INTERVENTION A recent Economist survey suggests that Religion is Dead, but it's way more interesting than that! Every couple of millennia, old religious forms die because they are corrupted or no longer serve us in daily living. Out of the ashes come renewed versions of these traditions merging with newly discovered resources from around the world. Our inquiry will explore the ways new spiritual practices draw from old and new. Afghanistan continues to be plagued by violence and insurgency; what can Afghanistan do within their country to fix their continuously "failed state"? Afghanistan presents itself as a case study into countries chronically suffering from social and economic imbalances and turbulences; what is our role in providing a framework for self-reliance? Our inquiry will explore the impacts, past, present, and future of intervention on the global stage. Learn about millennia-old resources that offer healing and the history of their journey to the contemporary world, as well as the story of lab-produced healing agents showing revolutionary results for trauma in veterans and others. Our inquiry will explore the lived benefits of these medicines and how we should bring them into our society ensuring equitable access and safety.
