CHABAD JCC ASPEN AND ISRAEL BONDS PRESENT: WEDNESDAY, JULY 11 | 5:00 PM DISCUSSION FOLLOWED BY A WINE TASTING THE SEARCH FOR KING DAVID'S WINE with Elyashiv Drori Israel was known as a source for quality wines in the ancient world. We aim to reestablish the ancient varieties used for wine production. To this end, we have collected more than 600 grapevines from the wilds all over lsrael. These were genetically analyzed leading to the identification of 70 unique and endemic grape varieties. In order to identify which of these were actually used for winemaking in ancient times, we collected a wide array of archaeological grape remains from various excavations. We use two approaches to identify the remains: A. morphological analysis of seed. B. Genetic characterization of these remains. This work will hopefully give us insight into the varieties use in the old practice of winemaking in ancient Israel and will enable the resurrection of the lost tastes.
