Canada thistle is considered an ecological problem in Pitkin County because it will reduce biodiversity over time Canada thistle emerges in June or July in most parts of Pitkin County Infestations exist in cultivated fields, riparian areas, pastures, rangeland, forests, lawns and gardens, roadsides, and in waste areas. Serious infestations exist on private land bordering Snowmass Creek and Capitol Creek, and on public land throughout the County.
